Tourmaline, Rubaya, Bahunde, Masisi Territory, North Kivu, DR Congo

$3,300.00

Size: 5.1x2.0x2.0cm 33.38grams

Mineral: Tourmaline

Locality: Rubaya, Bahunde, Masisi Territory, North Kivu, DR Congo

Description: This specimen is composed of parallel growth of at least 4 different crystals combining into one spectacular specimen. The crystal is a complete floater with a fully re-crystallized bottom that even started another phase of growth with s small tourmaline growing almost perpendicular to the C axis of the other crystals. The color is magnificent a teal that fades in and out of blue and green tones along the specimen. My favorite part are the large number of complex terminations at the top that have a mirror like luster.

For the past several decades the Congo has produced tourmalines from a number of localities (Laurs et al., 2004, Henn, 2010; Laurs 2015). Usually, these specimens were from weathered deposits produced as by products industrial mineral mining and were not of gem quality (The Journal of Gemology Volume 35 / No. 8 / 2017). Recently in the past several years there has been a concerted effort to specifically mine gem grade specimens in areas such as the Rubaya Pegmatite District. I am very happy to say that in my humble opinion Rubaya is now producing some of the finest contemporary tourmalines available on the market. The color, clarity, and sharp complex terminations are simply astonishing.

COMES WITH CUSTOM CUT ROUND ACRYLIC BASE

Please feel free to contact me for more photos or videos of the specimen.
