Locality: Commodore Mine, Amethyst vein, Creede Mining District, Mineral Co., Colorado, USA

Description: A true Colorado classic these colorful specimens are a favorite with both local Colorado collectors and USA collectors as a whole. This particular specimen features a nice bed of nicely saturated purple amethyst with a twin sphalerite perched right on top. Several other areas show partial sphalerite crystals. This locality stopped producing decades ago and the dumps are now an EPA superfund site.
