Chalcocite, Flambeau Mine, Ladysmith, Rusk Co., Wisconsin, USA

$400.00

Size: 4.3x3.6x2.0 cm

Species: Chalcocite

Locality: Flambeau Mine, Ladysmith, Rusk Co., Wisconsin, USA

Description: There is fantastic blue and purple iridescence on this chalcocite with abundant crystal faces. Minor dings along the periphery but otherwise in good condition. The colors are being caused by a coating of bornite. This specimen comes from the now closed Flambeau Mine in Wisconsin and is the most important find of this species in North America. The property was operated by Kennecott up through 1997 and has now been completely reclaimed and revegetated. No specimens will likely ever come from this mine again. Ex: Casey Jones
