Chalcocite, Flambeau Mine, Ladysmith, Rusk Co., Wisconsin, USA
Size: 3.5x3x2.5 cm
Species: Chalcocite
Locality: Flambeau Mine, Ladysmith, Rusk Co., Wisconsin, USA
Description: Specimens of chalcocite from the Flambeau Mine rank among some of the best found in North American. Unfortunately the Flambeau mine closed in 1997 and will never produce specimens again. This specimen displays a brilliant blue iridescence which is caused by a coating of bornite. The blue specimens from this find are among the most desirable. This piece is in fantastic condition and displays many sharply defined faces of a secondary generation of chalcocite that grew on the primary chalcocite crystals underneath. An American classic!
