Description: A very interesting elongate purple fluorite that is fully crystallized all around. Lustrous faces and sharp edges, with visible inclusions along one face. There is slight translucency on the fluorite, which fluoresces a blinding blue under UV light. From 19th Century Spar Box
These spar boxes were built in the 1800’s by miners who had a tradition of making detailed objects from the minerals found while mining for ore. They ranged from simple arrangements to ornate designs and fantastical scenery. These creations were occasionally a competition and often sold as souvenirs. At the time they were generally viewed as trivial and consequently very few were preserved.
Alston Moor is a large district that encompasses dozens of localities within the Cumbrian area of England. Having an exact mine location attributed within this generalized district is very desirable.
