Locality: Bingham Canyon Mine, Bingham Dist., Salt Lake Co., Utah, USA
Description: This is one of the best fluorite examples for the locality that I have seen. Translucent, light green cubes up to over 3.5 cm on edge sit on a bit of matrix. Good luster, sharp edges, and some druzy quartz on the backside. Well crystallized on both sides, this Utah fluorite is in good overall condition, with a couple minor dings that are hardly visible.
This specimen is from the collection of Jerry North who worked as a geologist at the Bingham Canyon Mine for 20 years. While employed by Kennecott, he was tasked to collect mineral specimens for the company collection. Through this role he was able to assemble one of the most comprehensive and diverse private mineral collections ever put together from this historic locality. The Bingham Canyon Mine is one of the largest open pit mines in the world but a surprisingly small number of mineral specimens are seen for sale from this important American locality.
