Fluorite, Celestite, Stoneco White Rock Quarry, Clay Center, Ottawa Co., Ohio, USA
Size: 19.6x14.5x7.8 cm
Species: Fluorite, Celestite
Locality: Stoneco White Rock Quarry, Clay Center, Ottawa Co., Ohio, USA
Description: A rather large matrix specimen of lustrous dark brown fluorite with white bladed celestite and some yellow calcites. The fluorite cubes are razor sharp up to 2.0 cm in size. There are a number of coral and gastropod fossil molds within the matrix, where surfaces are coated in a microcrystalline calcite. I note one dinged corner on a fluorite within the main cluster. The periphery outside of the central crystallization is a rough composite of the three minerals. Sawn on the back and sides, stands nicely. From a classic midwest locale, where the fluorite fluoresces a cream white color. Not much high quality production has come out of this Ohio quarry since the famous finds during 2006.
