Quartz, Pyrite, Spruce Ridge, Snoqualmie Dist., King Co., Washington, USA
Size: 8x5.5x4.5 cm
Species: Quartz, Pyrite
Locality: Spruce Ridge, Snoqualmie Dist., King Co., Washington, USA
Description: Here we have a superbly aesthetic Spruce Ridge quartz and pyrite specimen. These pieces are highly sought after by American collectors but only a small number are produced each year. This is primarily due to the rugged topography of the area where these are mined. The miners are only able to operate during the summer and spring collecting season when the area is snow free. The area is accessed by rope and miners hang from the side of a cliff with a jackhammer to collect these specimens. This is all done in hopes of finding an extrodinary specimen like this one. This particular piece is a favorite of mine due to the sharp undamaged sharp brassy pyrite that is encircled from behind by razor sharp and water clear quartz crystals that pierce upwards. An American classic with top notch aesthetics.
