Rhodochrosite, Quartz, Fluorite, Sweet Home Mine, Alma Mining Dist., Park Co., Colorado, USA
Size: 13.0x6.1x3.1 cm
Species: Rhodochrosite, Quartz, Fluorite
Locality: Sweet Home Mine, Alma Mining Dist., Park Co., Colorado, USA
Description: While many people have hard of the famous rhodochrosite from the Sweet Home Mine not many people know that the mine also produced other minerals that are of interest to collectors. This piece exabits several species including rhodochrosite, fluorite, quartz, galena, chalcopyrite, and sphalerite. Certainly to those concerned with aesthetics the most significant species on this piece are the red rhodochrosite that poses a striking counterpart to the aqua colored fluorite crystals. The fluorites are fantastically complex with a myriad of modified cubic faces. The fluorites are up to 1.2cm across and the rhodochrosite crystals are up to 1.5cm across. I do not some damage on the specimen with one of the fluorites having a cleave. A great specimen showing the association of many minerals from this locality. Ex: Bill Williams
