Rhodochrosite, Rainbow Pocket, Sweet Home Mine, Alma Mining Dist., Park Co., Colorado, USA

$5,000.00

Size: 5.3x4.8x2.4 cm

Species: Rhodochrosite

Locality: Rainbow Pocket, Sweet Home Mine, Alma Mining Dist., Park Co., Colorado, USA

Description: Sweet Home rhodochrosite mineral specimens are highly sought out by collectors worldwide due to their incredible color and sharp euhedral crystals. Some of the largest and most spectacular specimens to ever be produced from this well known locality were collected in 1992 when the Rainbow Pocket was discovered. This pocket includes the famous Alma King which measured a whopping 15cm (the largest complete crystal in the world) and was re-attached to it’s matrix. This world famous specimen can currently be seen on permanent display at the Denver Museum of Nature an Science. This specimen displays the stereotypical white dickite which can be seen on many pieces from this pocket. Note that the dickite has not been analyzed only visually examined. There are some doubly terminated transparent quartz crystals on the back of the specimen up to 1cm along with some minor sulfides sphalerite, chalcopyrite, etc. The specimen is in pretty good condition, it is cleaved along what I could call the bottom face. Overall a wonderfully aesthetic mineral specimen with a great history from one of the most famous finds of rhodochrosite in the world.
