Selenite, Red River Floodway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Size: 8.5x6x5.5 cm
Species: Selenite
Locality: Red River Floodway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Description: A Canadian classic, these floater specimens of selenite are a light yellow color and fluoresce incredibly bright white/light blue, with a phosphorescent green afterglow that lasts for quite a few seconds. They are just as display worthy in plain light, with sharp edges, lustrous faces, and gemmy interior. This specimen is in pristine condition, with no significant visible damage. An aesthetic focal crystal rises from the top, and there is some fish-tail twinning present as well. For over 20 years now, collecting has been carefully controlled and enforced to be closed to the public. Ex: Gene Schlepp. Please note the UV photo looks more blue due to the fluorescent photography they appear more white in person.
