Locality: Kongsberg Silver Mining District, Buskerud, Norway

Description: A stunning miniature silver wire specimen from the Kongsberg silver mines in Norway. There are over 300 mines in this district and the area has been worked since the early 1600’s. What makes this district iconic among mineral collectors is the superb quality of the native silver wires that were found. This specimen follows that tradition featuring a robust thick wire with a wonderful patina. The base of the specimen is more blackened likely due to a coating of assorted silver sulfides on the silver wires. The main wire terminates into a contact where it grew into another mineral.
