Description: Tanzanite is the blue to purple gem variety of zoisite, with the most famous locality being the Merelani Hills in Tanzania. This crystal is very representative of the find with a lovely combination of blue and violet. The crystal has outstanding color, sharp terminations and is quite gemmy. The high luster on the termination showcases sharply defined growth hillocks. This crystal displays a strong dichroism appearing blue along one orientation and violet along the other orientation in plane polarized light. I note only a half centimeter ding that is on the backside. There is minor graphite on the backside as well. An excellent tanzanite specimen for the collector.
