Description: Tanzanite is the blue to purple gem variety of zoisite, with the most famous locality being the Merelani Hills in Tanzania. This crystal is especially unusual, exhibiting a natural bicolor of purple and yellow, which clearly demonstrates that it has not been heat treated. The specimen is 3.2 cm tall and weights 23.28 grams. For the intense purple coloration and gem quality present at the apex of the specimen, this is a sizeable crystal. The crystal displays strong trichroism in plane-polarized light, appearing blue in one orientation, blue in another, and red along the C axis. This crystal is in fantastic condition, with top-notch luster and a sharp termination. This is a superb collector-quality gem crystal.
