$150.00

Size: 3.5x2x1 cm

Species: Wavellite, Chalcocite, Quartz

Locality: Bingham Canyon Mine, Bingham Dist., Salt Lake Co., Utah, USA

Description: A neat example of multigenerational crystal growth. An initial quartz cluster has been coated by chalcocite and subsequently small crystalline wavellite. In great condition, I note no damage. This specimen is from the collection of Jerry North who worked as a geologist at the Bingham Canyon Mine for 20 years. While employed by Kennecott, he was tasked to collect mineral specimens for the company collection. Through this role he was able to assemble one of the most comprehensive and diverse private mineral collections ever put together from this historic locality. The Bingham Canyon Mine is one of the largest open pit mines in the world but a surprisingly small number of mineral specimens are seen for sale from this important American locality.
